Check-in was like amateur hour, I think the Guest Service Agent was an intern who had to ask another person about everything, and I think that other person was also an intern who then turned to a 3rd person who was more helpful and whom may have been an actual resident employee. But at the end, they still had to go into the back office to ask the manager about the simple questions I had, one of which is whether I can use my AAA card discount – spoiler alert, answer is NO, only during reservation time.

The hotel is smack in the middle of a relatively mundane residential neighborhood. Not a surrounding you would expect a respectable hotel to be located, especially a hotel that resides in the same zip code as the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

There is NO self-parking, only valet parking. Hotels.com said “available” parking. If I knew it was valet parking, that would have been a deal breaker.

There were no shower curb to prevent water from running into the rest of the bathroom which had a separate drain…then I realized, we were placed in a handicap room even though I didn’t ask for a handicap room. Maybe I just “look” handicap to those amateur guest agents?

Room furniture look like they came straight from IKEA or what a swank new Motel 6 cheap decor would look like before it gets trashed.

The back rooms like ours face another hotel that had bright lights on every 10 feet on center making it impossible to sleep with any sliver of curtains open…..and if you shut the curtains, there is NO night-light so you will bump your head and bang your knee in the dark of night.

Their $10+ soup was a 2/3 Dixie cup of Campbells chicken noodle soup and their $10+ caesars salad was a $8 salad straight from 7-11 down the street!

All this at a high price tag!

……the only few good things about this hotel is…….

– The hotel is still relatively new and so is clean.

– Having said, “if I knew the hotel had only valet parking, that would have been a deal-breaker” —the only staff at the hotel who were pleasant to interact with were the valet staff.

– The hotel is located about 20 minutes walk from the Boardwalk and about 15 minutes walk from Downtown Santa Cruz.
