Some everyday pet peeves I encounter in my daily live that we all have to live with, they might be yours too, or you may have your own list!
Pet Peeve #1 – I take BART to and from work everyday, and one of my BART pet peeves that seems to be getting worse is when you’re about to get to your off-board station and as usual, passengers start to get up and move towards the door. But what’s not proper etiquette is when half of those passengers that move towards the door are not getting off at that next stop! And this is especially bothersome when you politely let those passengers who are not getting off get in front of you thinking they are getting off but are not. They only add to the already crowded train blocking the exit when they are not exiting! They seldom even look behind them to see if there are any passengers that are actually trying to get off!
Pet Peeve #2 – People tend to stop at the most crowded inconvenient places in public not thinking about the rest of the Universe! LOL! This again happens at BART stations a lot but it happens everywhere you go in public. They tend to stop at the turnstiles at the entrance to BART and fumble around for their ticket stopping a stampede of busy commuters, instead of moving to the side or getting their ticket out before they get to the turnstile. Oh faux paux! But what’s even worse is when they stop at the start and especially at the end of an escalator! And when you stop at the end of an escalator, it is down right dangerous for people behind you. Then there are those who enter a BART train and have a brain freeze and stop like they have to look for a seat while blocking the entrance. I can’t recall how many times I lost a seat on the train because of a passenger stopped in front of me while other passengers from the opposite entrance are able to go from their end to my end of the trai
n to grab that seat! Hint, get on the train, go left or go right, easy peasy! LOL. This brain freeze stopping at busy places happens on the street too, pedestrians oftentimes stop at busy street corners like that’s the only place they can make decisions, LOL! People, move just 2 steps over to the side, street corners are not a place for powwows, they’re a place for pedestrian traffic, just like you wouldn’t stop your car on a street intersection! …..or would you? hmmm. And then there are those who come out from stores obliviously without looking both ways and just stand in the middle of ongoing sidewalk traffic. Again, just like driving a car, you wouldn’t go into oncoming traffic and you especially wouldn’t just stop as soon as you get into that traffic. Big City downtown sidewalks like here in San Francisco are constantly filled with people going to and fro, please be considerate.
Pet Peeve #3 – OK, since all the pet peeves thus far all have something associated with BART, might as well continue with a BART pet peeve theme, LOL! Note, I didn’t intend this to be a BART pet peeve log, I have other non-BART pet peeves, but since I spend a lot of time on BART, it seems I’ve accumulated a lot of BART pet peeves. Anyhow, hate it when you wait patiently with all the other civilized passengers in a crowded line only to have someone sneak up to the front of the line and slip themselves in front of everyone! Not cool!
Pet Peeve #4 – Hate it when you see people jump the pay gates. I pay my fair share to ride BART and keep it running with my paid rides. I don’t want to have to pay for these freeloaders too, since you know BART is not going to just eat their lost, they always past everything to us honest BART paying passengers in the form of fee hikes!
Pet Peeve #5 – Might as well end with another BART pet peeve! LOL. This one is probably more limited to a few like me, or it’s more an idiosyncrasy than a pet peeve! When you are standing in the front of a BART line that lines up alongside/parallel to the train track (instead of perpendicular to it), and the back of that line next to you will go straight into your line if they don’t turn it outwards at some point – those last few passengers in that line will never turn their line outwards! So what you end up with is that line merging into you and your line, and other passengers come to get in line and just get confused since the 2 lines are now visually merged. People, if the lines at your station use the “parallel to the track method”, turn your line outwards a little, not that hard, really!
Ok, I know, I have issues, LOL! That’s it for now. Next time, I’ll have more non-BART pet peeves, I promise.
